I came to spend a relaxing and fun moment learning something new and left with good tips and a few notions on how to appreciate the ancestral art of Chinese calligraphy . Lucy is very gentle and wise and knows very well how to express her love for this discipline . Her knowledge has helped me look at Chinese calligraphy works during my trip with new eyes . Very enriching experience ! The location might seem a bit difficult to find . If you follow the instructions that Lucy provides , you ‘ ll get there without problems 😉

As a complete beginner, I was worried about being able to keep up, but we started from the basics and Lucy tailored her teaching to our group’s abilities. I learned a lot about the history of Chinese calligraphy and was able to make my own scroll using what l’d learned. Highly recommend for an off-the-beaten track experience in Shanghai!

Lucy is a great teacher with a lot of background knowledge. She made it very interesting, even for us who knew no Chinese writing in advance. The class was also set in a very home-cozy environment. Top experience.

Writing your own fan as a keepsake adds a practical touch to the experience. With soothing background music, two hours fly by unnoticed. The cozy space and Lucy’s adorable demeanor make the workshop a delightful experience.

It was an excellent introduction to Chinese calligraphy and I enjoyed it so much that I have asked for more lessons … Lucy was extremely generous with her time, giving considerably more than the two hour time slot. Her enthusiasm and love of the subject really shows. I also appreciated her ability to answer my questions about the pieces of calligraphy we discussed in a straightforward, clear way. Lucy’ s approach feels very honest and genuine.

Lucy did a wonderful job explaining the history of calligraphy in a compelling way that gave me a new appreciation for learning Chinese characters. When it came to the practical exercises, she was extremely patient and helpful in showing us how to trace our first characters. This introductory course was a great experience and window to Chinese culture!
